Workshops

Currently, the Śramani Institute is offering EcoResilience Workshops.

OVERVIEW

The EcoResilience Workshop is a regenovation (regenerative innovation) of the Śramani Institute that teaches organizational leaders how to reframe programmatic strategies around the new concept of EcoResilience, so that organizations can effect long-term solutions to complex local-global ecosocial challenges, instead of merely temporarily mitigating them.

WHAT IS AN ECOSOCIAL CHALLENGE?

An ecosocial challenge is any issue that negatively impacts the economic, ecological, and/ or social wellbeing of groups (e.g., communities) of humans and the ecologies they inhabit. Ecosocial challenges include:

  • poverty and/ or unemployment
  • food insecurity, water scarcity, and/ or energy insecurity
  • climate crisis (pollution, waste generation/ processing, biodiversity loss, and/ or environmental degradation)
  • ill-health, hunger/ malnutrition, and/or healthcare insecurity
  • discrimination, inequity, and/ or violence
  • disenfranchisement and/ or restricted autonomy of decision-making

AUDIENCE: WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS WORKSHOP?

If you are a leader in an organization that works to address one or more ecosocial challenges, you will benefit from the new skills taught in the EcoResilience Workshop. Such organizations include:

  • nonprofit (civil society or community-led) organizations
  • funders of nonprofit organizations (e.g., CSR entities and foundations)
  • thinktanks and/ or policy-making entities
  • universities and/ or research organizations
  • multilateral organizations and/ or government entities
  • for-profit companies

EXPECTED OUTCOME

The EcoResilience Workshop will enable you to begin engaging in integrated analytical systems thinking — i.e., taking into account an array of different variables, understanding their interconnectivities, and designing integrated systems and plans — to innovatively solve complex problems with sustained long-term impact.

PARTICIPATORY METHOD

Through novel participatory and first principles-based pedagogical methods, the EcoResilience Workshop takes participants through a step-by-step unlearning-relearning process. While new concepts are introduced through short lectures, skills development occurs in small groups. For optimal effectiveness, the Workshop:

  • is geared toward a total of 30-50 participants
  • has breakout working groups of 5-7 participants each
  • is conducted in-person in 5 modules over 1 day or multiple days (with no online option)

FIRST PRINCIPLES-BASED PEDAGOGY

Rather than promoting any particular ideology or framework, the EcoResilience Workshop utilizes first principles-based pedagogy, a regenovation of the Śramani Institute. This novel method of learning is the reason leaders of a wide variety of organizations benefit from the skills taught, regardless of which type(s) of ecosocial challenges their organizations work to address. First principles are those that can be discerned and/or deduced from observation, forming the basis of participants learning to make connections and innovate solutions on their own.

WHY THE ECORESILIENCE WORKSHOP IS A PARADIGM SHIFT

The EcoResilience Workshop is a paradigm shift in complex problem-solving because it helps participants develop new skills enabling them to effectively solve ecosocial challenges by eliminating their root causes.
